Mark founded the Future in Review conference in 2003, after his ability to accurately predict the future of technology and the global economy grew Strategic News Service’s member ranks to include a who’s-who of technology leaders who wanted to hang out in real life. Rather than say no to the likes of Bill Gates and Jensen Huang, Mark launched Future in Review with his sisters, Sharon and Sally, creating an annual gathering for brilliant, courageous, and collaborative leaders building the future of technology and the global economy.

As COO & Program Director, Berit draws on her entrepreneurial background in independent media to lead the day-to-day operations of the FiRe team. She wears a lot of hats, but her big-picture goal at Future in Review is relatively simple: plan and host the most brilliant, courageous, and collaborative technology conference in the world.

Managing Director of FiReFilms

As Editor-in-Chief, Sally keeps us all on the level, making sure all the materials we distribute for and about Future in Review are accurate, error-free, and well-written. As an original member of the Strategic News Service team, she knows everybody, which is why she’ll be the one at FiRe coming up behind you to tap you on the shoulder if you’re late for your speaking slot. As Managing Director of FiReFilms, Sally coordinates with documentary filmmakers to review, select, and distribute their projects to the FiRe and SNS communities. She also leads the SNS publishing branch, FiReBooks.

Sharon

Sharon co-founded Future in Review with Mark back in 2003 and served as Program Director until 2018, during which time she oversaw FiRe sponsor and partner programs, planned and hosted the conference, and launched the FiReStarters and FiReFilms programs. Today, she serves as CEO of FiReFilms, leading the selection and promotion of each year’s FiRe Featured Film. Luckily for us, she also serves as a member of Future in Review’s Advisory Board, bringing her many years of dedication and experience to help guide our strategic direction.

In his role as CTO, Scott oversees Future in Review’s technical web, communications, and cybersecurity systems. At the FiRe conference, you’ll find him at the back of the room, overseeing and collaborating with the AV team to make sure the conference production goes off without a hitch. Since almost the inception of SNS, he’s also been the one behind the curtain publishing the SNS Global Report and iNews in shape and on time.

Wil

2023 FiRe Operations Team; and CEO & Founder, Beech Energy Consulting

As CEO and founder of Beech Energy Consulting, Wil specializes in energy storage development as well as rooftop solar. Beech Energy Consulting’s main client is eleXsys Energy – a solar, battery, and power electronics developer out of Brisbane, Australia. Wilfred also takes time out of his professional career each year to help run the Future in Review conference. In the past, he has served as a FiReFellow and the FiReFellow team leader, and in 2023 he will help run the conference behind the scenes on the Operations team.

Ben

Ben Audley, CFP, is an advisor with Private Vista LLC, a wealth management firm based in Chicago but serving clients nationwide. Ben is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison and holds a bachelor’s degree in economics and international studies. Fascinated by macroeconomic trends and international affairs, Ben is looking forward to his first year serving as a FiReFellow liaison for select FiReStarter companies, as well as assisting FiRe staff and other participants.

Ann

Ann Vertovec, MD, FACEP, ABOIM; Integrative Emergency Physician, Northwestern University

As an emergency physician, Ann has limited time with patients to discuss preventative care, but she emphasizes nutrition, exercise, nature, and relaxation techniques. She educates her colleagues and medical students / residents on these topics to help promote wellness for all and to mitigate career burnout. Ann also lectures on topics related to planetary health, including sustainable eating, native trees, and strengthening the focus of environment and health in medicine.

Tom

Tom Johnston is co-founder and CEO of SkyScraper Carbon, a startup focused on harnessing the power of nature to reduce the world’s carbon footprint using negative-emission technology. Tom’s mission mirrors that of SkyScraper’s: to challenge the status quo and find innovative ways to help the world evolve. Tom holds a bachelor of commerce degree from UBC Sauder School of Business in Vancouver, British Columbia. Raised in South Florida, he currently calls Toronto home. At FiRe 2023, Tom will be serving as a FiReFellow liaison for select FiReStarter companies as well as assisting FiRe staff and other participants.

Richard

Richard Taylor is from Melbourne, Australia, where he began his career in scientific research. As of 2023, Richard is merging his science and business backgrounds as a co-founder of SkyScraper Carbon – a new venture seeking to capture carbon with algae in commercial and industrial buildings. At FiRe 2023, Richard will be serving as a FiReFellow liaison for select FiReStarter companies, as well as assisting FiRe staff and other participants.
