Simon Hackett

Renewable Energy Advocate & Investor

About Me

After graduating from the University of Adelaide, Simon Hackett founded Internode in 1991. Internode grew to become the largest privately held national broadband services provider in Australia. After selling Internode to iiNet Ltd in 2012, Simon spent time on the board of iiNet and later the board of the Australian National Broadband Network.

Simon is now invested in a variety of Australian and US startups in fields he is passionate about. He is a keen supporter of electric vehicles, and meeting Elon Musk at FiRe in 2008 led to him being the first Australian customer of Tesla in 2009 and an EV driver ever since.

In the energy sustainability field, Simon has invested in startups in Australia, the US, and the UK.

He is a significant investor in Redflow (ASX:RFX), which makes one of the world’s leading non-lithium energy storage devices.

Simon is also a significant investor and non-executive director of the Fully Charged Show (fullycharged.show/). This show, held in the US, the UK, Europe, and Australia and recently renamed “Everything Electric,” is devoted to the theme of replacing fossil-fueled human activity with renewable-energy–based replacements, in both the transport sector (electric vehicles) and people’s homes (electric replacements for fossil-fueled appliances and systems).

Simon has been a regular participant and speaker at FiRe since 2006.
